FID Licenses and Licenses to Carry
F.I.D. Licenses are necessary if you want to own or carry propellant sprays (mace/pepper spray).
To carry a firearm, either concealed or not, you must have a License to Carry.
Requirements
- You must be at least 15 years old to apply; however, those under 18 years old must present a letter of permission from their parent or guardian.
- You MUST be 21 years of age to apply for a license to CARRY.
REQUIREMENTS FOR PROCESSING A PISTOL PERMIT
OR FIREARMS IDENTIFICATION CARD
If you are applying for a new License to Carry or a new FID card, you must have a certificate documenting that you have completed a Certified Firearms Safety Course or Hunter Safety Course prior to beginning your application. You must be a legal resident of the Town of Bourne, and not registered to vote elsewhere. The application, whether for a new or renewal LTC/FID is done on line at the police department between 8:30 AM and 3 PM, when a Sergeant involved in licensing is working. Call (508)759-4451 in advance to make sure. You may find it helpful to print out a copy of the application form and bring it with you. Bring your Massachusetts drivers license and a check or money order for $100 ($25 for a chemical restricted FID). You will be asked to provide the names, addresses and phone numbers of two references.
How Long
Please be aware that applications may take over 6-8 weeks to be returned. Be sure
to keep this in mind when renewing so your license does not expire.
Renewal
Licenses are good for up to 6 years; Propellant renewals are free; Firearm renewals
are $100.00.
